Then we continuously refine our ideas – unwilling to compromise and driven by an obsession for finding a better way. Today we employ more than 5,800 people around the world in software engineering, mechanical engineering and science-related roles.

Our Energy Storage team is responsible for new battery technology that will deliver significantly better performance than conventional battery cells.

About the role

The Associate/Principal Engineer as a mixing and extrusion subject matter expert (SME) is expected to hold valuable and deep domain knowledge, and experience in battery slurry mixing and extrusion process. The role is responsible for developing and providing battery slurry mixing and extrusion solution suitable for Dyson mass production equipment and assist workstream leaders in strengthen the technical advancement with his/her unique expertise.

For this role, the identified candidate is expected to collaborate and participate actively with ME workstream lead, RDD (Research, Design and Development) team, Research team, equipment vendors and all other needed technical functions to offer guidance, solve complex problems for both prototype and mass production line, and to help the business make informed decision within their area of battery slurry mixing and extrusion. This may involve planning, conducting engineering experiment, data analysis, reporting and creating production-scale equipment/process technical specification.

In addition, the identified candidate is also expected to collaborate closely with other function such as Operations Engineering, OPM (Operation Project Management), Procurement, Quality, Finance, HSE (Health and Safety), Estate/Facilities team as well as various equipment/component suppliers to ensure new Equipment/Product/Process are successfully setup with sufficient margin of capability required of a high-volume manufacturing environment at the targeted cost and within planned time frame.

This role will be based in manufacturing facility to include support start-up of a new manufacturing facility within the country of Singapore. Travel may be required from time to time depending on business needs.

Accountabilities & key responsibilities in the following:

  • Providing deep domain knowledge and experience in battery slurry mixing and extrusion process across all technical workstreams in Energy Storage team.

  • Identifying critical technical risks/gaps pertaining to all mixing and extrusion process across all workstreams.

  • To plan engineering strategy, engineering experiment and data analysis to mitigate technical risks, bridge technical gaps and ultimately deliver battery slurry mixing and extrusion solution and process fit for mass production.

  • Technical knowledge transfer of battery slurry mixing and extrusion process to cross-functional team.

  • Articulate technical risks, project plan and report findings to key stakeholders with clarity and accuracy.

  • Lead and hold tough conversions with internal and external parties to support complex problem solving.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Workstream Leads and equipment vendors to implement manufacturing solutions to support mass production.

  • Support Manufacturing Workstream Leads in defining robust and comprehensive Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) test methods and acceptance criteria related to slurry mixing and extrusion processes.

  • Deploy engineering tools such as DMAIC, 8D, DOE, 5whys to troubleshoot process/equipment and to guide cross-functional team on process improvements activities and data analysis.
